"Gay marriages with save the economy." I love it!

This is an amazing ensemble. I'm glad there are people standing up for these (your!) rights.

This is awesome, lol. I didn't even notice Kathy Najimy originally. I had to go back and find her.

And while I appreciate you listing Margaret Cho there, Lee, I'm not sure how anyone could overlook the yummy goodness that is NPH. I'm afraid I have to argue he should have gotten top billing - with JB a close second.

Okay, I just realized it's 3 minutes long, not 2 minutes, but really, it's so silly and fun, it's worth the extra minute, don't you think?

I voted against Prop 8 in CA, and I signed a petition to overturn it.
Question for you, Lee. Are there any gay animal characters? I've wondered about perhaps introducing one in my Ratha series.

Hey Claire, thanks for your efforts on behalf of Same-Gender couples!

As far as your question - there are lots of examples in nature of same-gender pairings among all sorts of animals (I believe the total number of species where same-gender coupling has been documented tops 350.)

In fiction for teens and kids, there's not much. There's the male penguin couple in the picturebook "And Tango Makes Three" and there's a Guinea pig two male couple in the picturebook "Uncle Bobby's Wedding."

As far as in fantasy... uh, there was a slight subtext that was never brought out in Anne McCaffrey's dragon series (that the losing dragons in the mating flight mated with each other, including the group of male riders who don't end up with the queen rider... which you could explain away by the blue (or was it green) dragon's being female, but since the riders of every dragon but the queen were MALE, it seemed to mean that there was quite a bit of same sex coupling going on among the losers of the queen's mating flight) but it was sketchy, never spelled out that clearly, and mostly formed by my adolescent desperation to find SOMETHING gay in that series I so loved.

So I'd say, go for it! It would be fantastic to include same-gender love in your Ratha series. You'd bring your current readers an empathy with a gay character that they maybe didn't expect, and you'd be reaching a huge audience of GLBTQ and Allied readers who would love some great gay characters in fantasy to "sink their teeth into."

Please let me know if I can be of any assistance in your process.

Namaste,

Lee

OMG. That was hilarious.

And the green riders - all male (except for Mirriam, but that comes later) - had sex with the other riders whose dragons (blues and browns) chased the greens when they flew to mate. No offspring was possible from the green, but she still flew to mate, and the emotions were still carried to the riders.

There is one scene in one of the books that shows the group of men watching a green rise to mate and then they all disappear inside the weyr. Can't remember which book now.

I'll have to ponder the gay animal characters. Seems like there should be some somewhere (other than what you already mentioned).

I heard this was being done, but this is my first view. Hilarious and thanks for posting.

Don't forget the gay male rhino couple from "Ice Age". And of course the chipmunks Chip and Dale... Absolutely! Positively!

Lee - Have you seen this site on children's books with gay characters?
