Two Boys Kissing - Two Teen Guys Aim To Set a New Guinness World Record

Two Boys Kissing by David Levithan

A based-on-true-events story of Harry and Craig, two 17-year-olds who are about to take part in a 32-hour marathon of kissing to set a new Guinness World Record—all of which is narrated by a Greek Chorus of the generation of gay men lost to AIDS.

While the two increasingly dehydrated and sleep-deprived boys are locking lips, they become a focal point in the lives of other teen boys dealing with languishing long-term relationships, coming out, navigating gender identity, and falling deeper into the digital rabbit hole of gay hookup sites—all while the kissing (former) couple tries to figure out their own feelings for each other.

I'm so glad you've listed this book. It's one of my favorite YA novels, from last year as well as in general. I found it really moving and heartbreaking as well as inspiring.

I found this book fascinating. Levithan can really knock my socks off sometimes. For me, the collective narrator was the most intriguing element of the book on many levels. The concept itself is brilliance, add to that the reality that my 8th graders (& tons of today's teens) know nothing at all about the AIDS epidemic, which makes the narrators ghosts two times over -- maybe three times over given the way they were ignored by many of their (my) contemporaries. Great book, Lee.
