Sounds like fun, but it's a little bit disappointing that almost all of the books are aimed at girls. I've noticed this a lot when reading book blogs (yours is a great exception). BTW, do you know what happened to "Worth the trip"?

I am a newbie to your site (saw the link from Em's bookshelf blogspot) and I appreciate the amount of amazingness it is! I'm in a YA book group and we're doing a queer theme for a round of 5 books and I noticed you don't have one title reviewed that I've heard killer things about: Almost Perfect. Check it out. It's about a transgender and I think it'd be right up your blog's alley.

i'm very eager to hear what other readers think of *WINTERGIRLS*. I read it several months back, and was very impressed, but I haven't really read/heard a lot of other people's opinions.

I really admire how much reading you all do for this (especially first round judges --the quantity! whew!) I have faith that the people reading and reviewing would fall for a good male protagonist, but Charlie's comment definitely has me thinking.
Excitedly awaiting the results. I haven't read much YA lately but will try to pick up at least one of these titles at some point. I've seen several reviews of Wintergirls but the others aren't quite as familiar to me.
That is a great list of book. I have read only two of them and have the others on my TBR pile (along with the 146 on my shelves at home) Good luck with your hard decision. I have to say that Wintergirls was one of my favorites of last year and I have not been able to keep it on my shelves. Loved "North of Beautiful". If the others are as good as those too I wouldn't want to be in your shoes.
I thought Blue Plate Special was an extremely interesting book thematically and structurally - at first I was frustrated because I couldn't figure out what these girls had in common (though I did really like their individual stories). When enough hints were finally dropped that I got the connection I was seriously impressed!
Into the Wild Nerd Yonder was one of my favorite books of the year - the gaming group is so much like my group of gaming friends in college I was laughing constantly. It also got major props from me for not having totally ridiculous parents.
I also read Wintergirls awhile back, when it first came out, and didn't see much on the blogs about it, so I was kind of surprised when I saw it getting nominated for all sorts of honors. I know I thought it was a great book, but no one else seemed to be talking about it!

I've read 3/7 of these, and 2 of those would make it onto my list of the strongest books I read all year (North of Beautiful & Into the Wild Nerd Yonder). I will not tell you which was book #3 because it was one that everyone else thought was fantastic and I thought was overdone. This said, I'm super curious to see what wins and I'd love to be a fly on the wall for your judge discussions. Enjoy the books!
